Dubbing / Post-sync Module

The Dubbing / Post-sync Module of Noblurway Mosaic provides tools for precisely placing the text of the original version of a digital rythmo band (lip sync), as well as part of a voices post-sync than in a preparatory work for adaptation. In the case of dubbing, the module also allows to place, on the rythmo band, detection signs indicating lips movements. These signs are then used to adapt the translation so that the chosen words comply with the lip sync. Finally, whether for a post-sync or dubbing, digital rythmo of Noblurway Mosaic provides help to the actor to control the flow of his voice by simply reading the scrolling text (breathing) of the original text or the adapted version, which guarantees a perfect synchronization between word and image.

Detection of the original text

Noblurway Mosaic allows to directly place, on the rythmo band, the text of script dialogues of the movie in original version, without having to enter it. A tool is then used to position quickly and precisely key-letters on the corresponding images so that the reading of the text is perfectly synchronous with the scrolling of images. The digital rythmo band obtained can be used as part of a voice post-sync or be used as a starting point for a translation with adaptation of words for dubbing.

For dubbing, it is possible to place detection signs on the rythmo band, these signs indicate key frames where the choice of words must respect lips movements. For example, there are signs which indicate the beginning or the end of a sentence, a lip, a semi-lip, rounded lips...

Example of Detection with Noblurway Mosaic

Once your detection finished, Noblurway Mosaic allows to generate the work grid in the case of dubbing, it allows to generate the original text script placed on the rythmo band in the case of a post-sync. The work grid indicates the presence or not of a character in each sequence (loop) of the movie and it is particularly used to optimize the time of actors in the recording studio.

By using the text of the Original Version and detection signs placed on the ryhtmo band, the adaptator can then write sentences by having all the information to respect the lip sync. He has a great flexibility in writing because he can put the words in a non-linear order, starting to write for example the second part of a sentence before writing the first part. Words can be more or less stretched to modulate the flow of the voice and place key letters under the associated signs.

Example of Adaptation with Noblurway Mosaic

Once the adaptation is complete, Noblurway Mosaic generates the script of the adaptation including lines of each character. It is also possible to export the lineage of the adaptation that indicates for each character the associated number of text lines.

Projection step in studio

During recording sessions, the video image is displayed in full-screen with the text of dialogues of the Original Version (post-synchronization) or those of the adaptation (dubbing) scrolling as a digital rythmo band. By reading the text, the actor benefits from an assistance to control the flow of his voice and ensure its synchronization with the visible movements of lips on the video image.

To make easy the integration of Noblurway Mosaic in a studio, it can be synchronized in two ways: 1) by using the RS-422 protocol or 2) by using a LTC signal (chase timecode). In both cases, Noblurway Mosaic is slave to another machine. In RS-422 protocol, the use of a CB Electronics USB422V interface with input video reference guarantee a very accurate synchronization.

The different versions of the Dubbing/Post-sync module

To meet the needs of each, Noblurway Mosaic is available in five versions:

  • Detection Version for detectors: it has all the functionality to do a detection.
  • Adaptation Version for adaptators: it allows to adapt an original version from the work done by a detector (this version does not allow to do detection).
  • Duo Version for adaptators that detect themselves: it combines the two versions Detection and Adaptation.
  • Projection Version for studios: it allows to project the digital rythmo band and video with a slave servomechanism.
  • Studio Version: it combines the functionality of three versions Detection, Adaptation and Projection.

The following table is a summary of the main features associated with the different versions of the Dubbing / Post sync module:
